Roadhog is one of the next heroes to receive an overhaul in Overwatch 2, as he’ll be getting some changes to make him more suitable for the sequel’s 5v5 gameplay. It looks like this revamp will coincide with the Junker Queen buff, as Blizzard seems to be putting a lot of focus on the tank class.
This news comes from Overwatch 2 lead hero designer Alec Dawson. Following the release of the latest mid-season patch, Dawson said that a so-called “mild overhaul” will bring additional changes to Roadhog in mid-to-late January, suggesting that the developers have big plans for the popular tank pick.
After the latest patch went live and made no changes to Roadhog, Dawson explained on Twitter that the hook-wielding threat won’t stay the same forever. “Overall, he’s getting a mild overhaul to better position him as a 5v5 tank,” the hero designer confirmed.
According to Dawson, there should be some changes to Roadhog in the patch we received on December 15th. However, these were delayed until January due to “technical issues”.
We don’t yet know what the new Roadhog will look like, but Dawson says developers are nerfing its one-shot abilities, so don’t expect to be able to bully Mercy Mains in next month’s race. That being said, it’s unclear how to rebuild Roadhog into a better 5v5 tank other than giving him an ability to help the entire team, not just himself.
While there were some disappointed fans in response, most seemed happy that Roadhog’s hook and one-hit combo was a thing of the past. In fact, many of the replies didn’t talk about the Roadhog news at all, but protested the recent Doomfist nerf. And, to be fair, many of us are still confused about it.
