He is the first to be named a suspect in the killings since they happened. There was no early information on a possible motive, nor was it immediately clear if he had retained an attorney. Kohberger is awaiting preliminary arraignment, the court documents say.
A Bryan Kohberger was also listed online as studying psychology in 2018 at Northampton Community College in Albrightsville, where he was a member of Psi Beta and got involved in “raising awareness of hidden disabilities.”
He was also employed as a part-time school security officer by the Pleasant Valley School District for several years until last year.
The arrest signifies a long-awaited breakthrough after four friends were stabbed to death as they slept in their off-campus home.
Kaylee Goncalves and Madison Mogen, 21, and Xana Kernodle and her boyfriend Ethan Chapin, both 20, all suffered multiple knife wounds.
Police had initially called the killings “targeted” but later walked that back, conceding for weeks that they had no murder weapon, no motive, no suspect, and no clear reason why the group were killed so brutally.
