Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, a musician, was remembered by mourners on Friday at the International Convention Center in Durban.
The 40-year-old passed away over the weekend in a hospital in Durban.
After having a small stroke, he was admitted to King Edward Hospital for treatment. After that, he was brought to Durdoc Medical Center.
Close friends and family of the celebrity will attend the service, which will also be broadcast online.
On Wednesday, the KwaZulu-Natal premier’s office announced that it will collaborate with the eThekwini municipality to help the family with the burial expenses.
Many people appreciated the gesture, but others, including radio personality Hulisani Ravele, questioned why the government was paying for people’s funerals.
Following a memorial ceremony for Mampintsha on Thursday at the eThekwini Community Church, the funeral will take place.
At the memorial, Mampintsha’s father expressed his grief and stated he was still processing his son’s passing.
Mampintsha’s legacy, according to DJ Tira, will endure.
“I never imagined that I would see his picture in this way. My heart is still broken right now, but the love you show us is the only thing that will enable us to move on.
