The reason the dish is being celebrated by Google is because on November 4 each year, rice farmers plant and reap the harvest so cooks across West Africa can start to make fresh jollof.

Artist Haneefah Adam created the artwork for the doodle.Haneefah also mentioned that though Jollof Rice was quintessentially West African, the preparation varies across countries, which she claimed showed the richness of the continent’s culture.
